Update from College Secretary and Director, College Health Service to students and staff

Dear students and colleagues

The number of COVID-19 cases nationally is not declining as quickly as we all would like. COVID-19 is still a problem, but we are the answer - let’s not let our guard down. We all need to continue to take all preventative measures on campus and at home to stop the spread of the virus to keep one another safe. This includes hand washing, cough etiquette, face coverings and physical distancing. Thank you for continuing with these efforts.

COVID-19 spreads quickly

We cannot underestimate the risks associated with a single incidence of COVID-19 and how it can spread quickly, impacting a large number of people. The recent outbreak of COVID-19 cases among students in Galway is a concrete example - the outbreak started with four cases, within a week there were nearly 100 cases, and in the end it involved over 200 households. Closer to home, another example is of one person in Trinity with COVID-19 impacting 43 people who all had to restrict their movements and get tested.

Easter arrangements for Library and student spaces

We would like to remind students that you can book a seat for the Library, for an online class/study space or a student breakout space as per the updated list here for maximum of 1 hour 45 minutes. The Public Theatre (Exam Hall) is now open on Sundays too from 9am – 10pm.

Below are the opening hours over College’s Easter 2021 closure period to help you plan ahead:

Kinsella Hall, 1937 Reading Room and Public Theatre (Exam Hall) Study Space

  • Good Friday, 2 April: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Easter Saturday, 3 April: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Easter Sunday, 4 April: CLOSED
  • Easter Monday, 5 April: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Student Breakout Spaces and Hamilton (former Bank) Study Space

  • Good Friday, 2 April: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Easter Saturday, 3 April: CLOSED as usual
  • Easter Sunday, 4 April: CLOSED as usual
  • Easter Monday, 5 April: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

An exception to this is the Dining Hall which will be closed on Good Friday, 2 April through to and including Easter Monday, 5 April.

The library and study spaces will be overseen by the GSU and the breakout dining spaces by the SU. Thank you to the GSU President, Gisèle Scanlon and SU President, Eoin Hand and their teams for organising these spaces and all the stewards for their ongoing careful management of the spaces.
