Update from Interim Chief Operating Officer & Director of College Health Service to staff and students

1 October 2021

Dear students and colleagues,

The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly visited the HSE pop up vaccination centre which was on campus this week. If you missed it and wish to be vaccinated, the walk-in clinic will return on Wednesday 20 October for people to avail of a first or second dose.

Return to Campus FAQs

A ‘Return to Campus FAQs Answered’ section has been added to our ‘Return to Campus’ website which answers questions from our student community. This section is updated regularly so if you have anything you would like answered about College’s general guidelines that is not dealt with there, please contact ReturnToCampus@tcd.ie with the subject line ‘RTC FAQs Answered’ and you will be responded to directly and replies will be added to the webpage.

Semester 1 assessments

Assuming that they are not constrained by the reimposition of government restrictions, Semester 1 assessments will take a wide variety of forms as they typically would. In some cases, in-person exams will be used where they are required for professional accreditation or the module coordinator judges that they are the best means of assessing student learning in a particular module. As before the imposition of restrictions, some in-person exams will be held at the RDS. In some cases, online forms of examination will be used if the module coordinator is of the view that these will more effectively assess a student’s mastery of module content and/or skills.

SafeZone app and COVID-19 tracker

All staff and students are encouraged to use the Safe Zone App. You can download the SafeZone app from the iOS or Android App stores, enter your TCD username and password, complete the registration form and you are good to go.  We would also like to encourage you to use Government’s free and easy-to-use COVID Tracker App. This app is a convenient way of storing your EU Digital COVID Certificate too.

Stay safe

As always, please continue to take all preventative measures on campus and at home to stop the spread of the virus to keep everyone safe. These include hand washing, cough etiquette, face coverings and physical distancing. Thank you.

The College Health Service is managing a very small outbreak in one of our Schools. This is not a teaching related outbreak and is not in College accommodation but is the result of a social gathering outside of College. This reinforces the importance of remaining vigilant of adhering to public health guidelines and being vaccinated.

UniCoV project – safeguarding our campuses

Students and staff are invited to participate in the UniCoV project. This pilot surveillance study assists in the detection of increased levels of COVID-19 across higher education institutes with the aim of facilitating the safe and sustainable re-opening of campuses. Please see more information here.

Stay safe. Stay well. Bígí slán agus sábháilte.

Kind regards,

Orla Cunningham, Interim Chief Operating Officer
Orla Ní Chuinneagáin, An Príomhoifigeach Oibriúcháin Eatramhach
Dr David McGrath, Director, College Health Service
An Dr Daithi Mac Craith, Stiúrthóir, Seirbhís Sláinte an Choláiste
