Update from Secretary to College, Interim Chief Operating Officer and Vice-Provost/Chief Academic Officer to staff and students
14 January 2022
Dear College community
We hope you had a restful break over the Christmas period. Positive news to start the new year is that over 1,000 students and staff availed of the walk-in vaccination centre operated by the College Health team in the Dining Hall this week. Following this success, another walk-in vaccination centre is planned for mid-February. We would like to sincerely thank Dr David McGrath, Director and Medical Officer of the College Health Centre and his colleagues for organising it.
We realise that the current spike in Omicron cases is impacting many staff and students. Please continue to take personal responsibility and do not come onto campus if you have any COVID-19 related symptoms. We would like to thank the College community for being flexible in responding to the current surge.
Semester 2 teaching
While a full return to in-person teaching is planned for semester 2, it may be that in certain instances due to staff or student COVID-19 related illness, classes may need to flip online for a short period as happened in the second part of last semester.
Volunteer for the UniCoV study – free COVID-19 testing
You are encouraged to avail of the UniCoV project which offers free regular COVID-19 lateral flow antigen testing and saliva LAMP PCR testing twice a week. Such tests assist with the early identification of SARS-CoV-2 infection, as well as the Omicron variant, thereby helping to stop the spread of the virus. To find out more, please see here.
With best wishes for a happy, healthy and brighter 2022.
Stay safe. Stay well. Bígí slán agus sábháilte.
