About the School of Law
Welcome
Welcome to the School of Law in Trinity College Dublin. I hope that our website provides you with the information that you need about our School. We are a scholarly community of staff, students and alumni, dedicated to the pursuit of legal knowledge and critical engagement with the legal challenges that confront modern communities.
Welcome to Trinity Law School. Founded in 1740 – ranked in the top 100 of Law Schools globally and the European Union’s leading common law Law School – we are located, geographically and intellectually, at the intersection of relationships between government, courts, big tech, and financial services.
We have a long and proud tradition of active engagement on issues of social justice. Members of the faculty and student body alike have been at the forefront of debates around social change in Ireland over many decades: from divorce, decriminalisation of homosexuality and reproductive rights to the protection of the environment, tackling apartheid and non-discrimination. Academic rigour and commitment to the public realm remain the values that animate how we teach, how we research, and how we engage in policy formation.
If you have not had the chance to visit us in our historic campus in Dublin city centre, I hope that these pages can provide you with a flavour of our scholarly community.
The School is home to the Trinity Centre for Constitutional Governance (TriCON) and research groups on corporate law, governance and capital markets; crime and punishment; private law; and technologies law and society. We annually publish the Dublin University Law Journal and the Irish Supreme Court Review, while the webpages for individual faculty members will provide you with full information on our recent projects and publications. Our researchers’ scholarship tackles a range of critical legal and interdisciplinary problems, working both independently and in collaboration with other Trinity researchers through the Trinity Research Institute for Social Sciences and Trinity Long Room Hub.
Each year, we welcome 200 students from around the world onto six undergraduate degree programmes – single honors law, and joint honors with business, French, German, history or political science. At postgraduate taught level, students can undertake a general LLM, focused LLMs in international and comparative law, intellectual property and information technology law, or European and international business law. We also offer a joint masters programme in financial services with Trinity Business School. Our vibrant postgraduate research programme supports doctoral research on domestic, European and global legal issues. To help you make your decision on all of our programmes, we have gathered together student testimonials that will give you an insight into the student experience.
