Welcome to the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy Equality, Diversity and Inclusion page. The School of Social Sciences and Philosophy has a dedicated Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team who are committed to ensuring EDI is embedded in all activities across the School.

The School EDI Team is comprised of two Co-Directors of EDI, both based in the Department of Sociology - Professor Camilla Devitt and Dr David Ralph, and Natasha Halpin, the School EDI Manager. The Co-Directors of EDI are responsible for leading the School’s EDI activities and the School EDI Manager's role is to support the Co-Directors and act as the Disability Liaison Officer.

The School currently holds a bronze Athena Swan award and is in the process of renewing this, with a plan to apply for a silver award in the future.

For the academic year 2025/26, the School EDI Team's focus will be to implement the Athena Swan Action Plan, as outlined in the Bronze renewal application. The renewal application is currently in progress, please see link to previous action plan here. The action plan incorporates activities relating to Gender, Disability and Race Equality, with a focus on staff and student supports.
