FAQs
I wish to have my offer extended/re-opened as I could not accept within the deadline
To request an offer acceptance extension please contact your Course Coordinator directly for permission. If approved, they will contact the Admissions team directly to request this.
The contact details for your Course Coordinator are listed on the course page.
I wish to defer my place on a course
Please note that you may only request a deferral once you have an accepted unconditional offer.
Please contact your Course Director for permission to defer. If they are in agreement, they will contact the Admissions team directly to request this.
The contact details for your Course Coordinator are listed on the course page.
I wish to withdraw my application
To withdraw your application (including an accepted offer), please email academic.registry@tcd.ie.
In the email subject line please include 'FAO PG Admissions'. In the email please include your applicant ID and the programme you wish to withdraw from.
Can the application fee be waived or refunded
The application fee cannot be waived as this is a mandatory fee required for the submission and assessment of each application.
This fee cannot be refunded or transferred to another application.
I wish to request a refund of my deposit
Course deposits are noted as non-refundable in your offer.
In limited circumstances the University may consider your request for a refund. To consider this request, please email academic.registry@tcd.ie providing one of the following for review;
- Conditions not met - If you have made a genuine attempt to meet the conditions in your official offer, please send on evidence of not meeting those requirements (failed language test taken after the offer, final academic award which does not meet requirements etc.).
- Illness preventing you undertaking the course – Please send official medical evidence confirming you are unable to undertake the course by the start date.
- Failure to obtain a visa – if you require a visa to attend the University, official evidence of a failed visa application is required.
For all the above, official certified translations should be provided as needed.
I wish to request a language waiver
As the University's language policy is based on academic language ability, you must provide evidence of a minimum of 1-year full time third level education taught and examined solely through English. This will then be reviewed.
Please note that work history etc. is not considered for language waivers given the policy is based on academic language.
I want to transfer the course I applied for
If you wish to transfer to a different course route or mode of the programme you applied for , please contact the relevant Course Director and request permission to move.
If in agreement, they will contact the Admissions team directly to request this.
If you wish to apply for a different course, you must make an application as per normal application requirements.
I am having issues accepting my offer
Please ensure that you are attempting to accept your offer within the time frame stated on your offer letter. If this has passed you will need to contact the Course Director to request your offer to be re-opened.
If you are encountering technical difficulties or a duplicate request for a deposit, please ensure you are accepting from a desktop device such as a computer or laptop while using a browser like Chrome.
Attempting to complete the acceptance/pay your deposit on a mobile phone may cause issues.
My course is being sponsored and I do not believe I should be charged a deposit.
Unless there is an agreement with the sponsor, your offer acceptance will require the payment of a deposit.
This is the applicant’s personal commitment to the course. If agreed with the sponsor, this will be refunded once full sponsorship is received, but in order to accept your offer you must pay your deposit.
Sponsorship forms can be found here.
I have questions regarding my visa
If you have visa queries please email tcdglobalroom@tcd.ie.
What do I need to provide to meet the conditions of my offer/complete my application?
Please note that official documents that are clearly legible with the whole document viewable are required. We do not accept screenshots of internal result web pages.
You must provide complete official academic transcripts, official language test certificates etc. If the original documents are in a language other than English, certified translations must also be provided.
It is the applicant's responsibility to satisfactorily demonstrate they meet entry requirements.
I have completed a language test that meets score requirements, but it is more than two years old
If your test is more than two years old on the date it is provided with your application, it will not be accepted.
To see which language tests are accepted, please refer to our English Language Requirements page.
I have not yet been invited to register
If you have an accepted unconditional offer, please note that Registration is a wide scale process for all incoming and continuing students and occurs on a rolling basis. Admissions cannot assist you with receiving this invitation sooner.
If you have uploaded documents but have not received an unconditional offer, please email academic.registry@tcd.ie so the Admissions team can check your application.
What kind of references does the University accept
Depending on course requirements you must either provide official Academic references or Professional/Clinical references.
Please note the University does not accept referee nominations that are from private email addresses (eg Gmail, Hotmail, etc). Official academic or professional emails need to be provided.
Only references directly provided by the nominated referee are accepted. If the references are being uploaded, for authentication purposes, the reference must be on official headed paper, signed and dated within 18 months of application.
My referee has not been contacted by the college.
Reference request emails are sent from academic.registry@tcd.ie to the email address provided on your application. Please advise your referee to check their emails including their spam inbox in case the email has been filtered there.
If required, you can resend the reference request email by logging in to the applicant portal (my.tcd.ie) and accessing your referee details via the ‘My Application’ tab.
My reference(s) are showing as outstanding
References must be uploaded by the referee via the link provided in the reference request email and cannot be accepted by any other means. The link can be accessed up to 10 times and will expire after 40 days.
Should this happen, you can generate a new link or amend referee contact details via the ‘My Application’ tab in the applicant portal (my.tcd.ie).
I accidentally entered the wrong referee contacted details
You can amend your referee contact details via the ‘My Application’ tab in the applicant portal (my.tcd.ie). Here you can edit or add referees and resend the reference request email.
Please note applicants will not have the facility to delete referees.
I omitted an important document when submitting my application
Once submitted, an application cannot be edited but applicants do have the ability to add documents to their application after submission. In the ‘My Applications’ tab in the my.tcd.ie portal, there is a link entitled ‘Add documents to support this application’.
This can be used to upload any documents that you wish to have included in the application review.
When will I find out if my application was successful?
Postgraduate applications are assessed on a rolling basis and the outcome will be communicated via the applicant portal (my.tcd.ie).
We are unable to give timelines for application outcomes.
My application states ‘Incomplete’ – what does this mean?
If your application is showing the status “INC” or “Incomplete”, this has been set by the assessor for the course. This may mean they need additional documentation from you / may not have received letters of reference from your nominated referees.
It may also mean that they are referring your application internally to another assessor for their review, in which case there may be no missing documentation, and no further action is needed from you.
Your status should be updated by the assessor soon, but if you wish to know more about your application status or if you need to submit more documentation, please contact Course Coordinator whose details are listed on the course page.
