University of Sanctuary Undergraduate Scholarships

The Trinity College Dublin University of Sanctuary Undergraduate Scholarship supports students currently in Ireland in the Irish International Protection system who have completed the Irish Leaving Certificate or a further education qualification (QQI FET/FETAC level 5/6 major award) and are offered a place on an undergraduate course in Trinity through the CAO.

These scholarships cover:

  • Academic fees for duration of a full-time, Honours Bachelor Degree (NFQ Level 8)
  • Annual stipend (aligned with the SUSI grant to help support living costs)
  • A laptop
  • On-campus food allowance
  • Tailored supports from the Trinity University of Sanctuary Support Officer

The scholarship is open to applications from people in the international protection system, including international protection applicants, those with refugee status, subsidiary protection, or humanitarian leave to remain (except deportation stage).

Scholarship Eligibility

Essential Criteria

  • Applicants must be residing in Ireland.  
  • Applicants must have applied for a place on a full-time, undergraduate, Honours Bachelor Degree (NFQ Level 8) at Trinity College Dublin through the CAO. Only applicants who receive a course offer will be shortlisted for the scholarship.
  • Applicants must have completed the Irish Leaving Certificate examination or a QQI FET/FETAC level 5/6 major award within the last two years. 
  • Applicants must not be eligible for state fee supports such as the Free Fees Initiative. 
  • Applicants must be able to commence studies in the year of application. 

Priority Criteria

  • Preference will be given to applicants who are entering a third-level undergraduate programme for the first time.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who live within 30km of the Trinity College Dublin central campus.

Additional Considerations

  • Some courses in Trinity have mandatory periods of study abroad. Applications for courses such as these will be considered on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the relevant School/Course.
  • Applicants for courses in the School of Nursing and Midwifery will be required to provide certain identity documents to verify identity for professional body registration. Documents accepted include a certified copy of a valid, current passport.

Application Process

Applications are open until 1 June 2026.

Before applying for the scholarship, applicants must first apply for their desired undergraduate course in Trinity through the CAO. You will need your CAO application number to complete the scholarship application. Please go to cao.ie for more information on how to make your course application 

Scholarship applications should be made by completing the online application form below. Applicants will be asked to provide detailed personal information and supporting documents. Please note that you will be able to edit your answers while you have the application form open. However, this application form does not save your answers if you close the tab / browser. Make sure to click the 'submit' button at the end of the form.  

We recommend that you review the sample application form in advance of completing the online application form so that you are aware of all of the information and documents required.
